Kevlar (Aramid fibers) is composed of aromatic polyamide, which provides exceptional impact resistance and good elongation (higher than carbon, but less than glass).
Aramid fibers are also widely used for composite materials as reinforcements, often in a combination with the carbon and glass fiber. The matrix for high performance composites is usually epoxy resin.
Typical applications include:
- monocoque bodies for F1 racing cars, helicopter rotor blades, tennis, table tennis, badminton and squash rackets, kayaks, cricket bats, and field hockey, ice hockey sticks
